Welcome to Comics Alive!

Superman in Flight

Around here I hope to provide lovers of the comic world with some entertaining if not interesting content about, what else?…. the world of comics. The folks at Marvel, DC and so many other artists and publishers have, over the decades, created a diverse universe full of characters from different genres that we have come to love and some that we love to hate. As a result of all of their artistic vision has also come another world of toys, collectibles, gaming and costuming etc. I personally like the history behind the comics and the characters so you’ll find a little of that around here too. But I will bring some cool info about these topics and many more.
When I was growing up I got to watch the old 60′s spiderman cartoon before I went to school in the mornings. In the afternoons after school there was Ultraman (for those of you not familiar, this was an old Japanese show made in the same fashion as the old Godzilla movies). Once or twice a week there was the 60′s Batman and The Green Hornet. Then as I got older there came other cool shows like Wonder Woman with Linda Carter and The Incredible Hulk with big Lou Ferrigno. Last but not least, how could I forget all of those Saturday morning cartoons…does anyone else remember those?

Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk!

Before you dive in though, did you know that there is a hardback novel that is historically considered to be the first published American comic book by a Swiss writer and caricaturist by the name of Rodolphe Töpffer entitled "The Adventures of Obadiah Buck". It was supposed to be a comical story of a man who repeatedly attempts suicide after being rejected by his romantic interest then after they finally get married there are ongoing comical episodes. Those closest to Töpffer didn't think much of it and the critics of the time gave his work some pretty poor reviews but to everyone's surprise the comic became hugely popular in the United States and in France.

For those of you that might be too young or for those of you who just haven’t seen or thought about it since Carter was President, check out the old 60′s Spiderman cartoon intro here. Although today’s animation and special effects technology really blows the old stuff out of the water, some of the old stuff is still better due only to its nostalgic feel. See you on the inside!
